This right-hand drive 964 Porsche Speedster is exceptionally rare with only 14 UK specification RHD cars being produced compared to 922 examples in left hand drive and one of only three fitted with Air Con. (There were 139 RHD of the 911.730 Speedster).
The VIN shows that this car was the last RHD example produced and is the only Maritime
Blue RHD. She was exhibited at the 1993 Earls Court Motor Show as an example of Porsche Technik.
Prior to being shown the car was fitted with sport exhaust and Porsche GB’s own ‘chip tuning’ at Porsche AFN works giving the car an additional 25 bhp increasing the standard power to approximately 280 bhp. Upgrades to the interior included full leather (including instrument surround), Recaro A8 sports seat and color matched hand brake, door pulls and shift knob. She was then fitted with ‘TechArt’ modifications including front and rear spoilers, Techart wheels and short springs (these have been replaced with adjustable KW Variant 1 sports suspension as she would ‘bottom’ at every roundabout). The large rear fixed spoiler was removed prior to initial sale.
The untuned examples perform at 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and top speed of 162 mph but, due to the additional BHP, a previous owner achieved 175 mph in this car. The acceleration would also be faster but I have no figures.
This car was featured in, and was on the front cover and centrefold of, the 1994 July / August Edition of ‘911 and Porsche World’. She is also pictured in Rose Calendars ‘Collectors Cars 2022’ as a cover detail and for November.
This model, launched in 1992 as a 1993 model, was based on the Carrera 2 cabriolet. While it featured a softer suspension set up than the 964 RS, it offered almost none of the comforts of a normal 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet. The hood is strictly an emergency soft top and was not intended to be “water-proof”. Purchasers had to sign a disclaimer against complaints of the hood not being water tight.
